I got word today that a pair of City Councilors may be preparing a First Reading of a mask mandate for the November 3rd meeting. Of course, we would have to wait a full week before a 2nd Reading would occur.
A recent survey (I think by one of the public colleges) said that 58% of respondents approve of a mask mandate. I actually think it is a lot higher, because when I go out shopping I see well over 80% of people wearing masks.
The two councilors working on the mandate ordinance are NOT the dynamic duo of Starr and Brekke.
I am assuming the mandate will be very weak, in other words it will be a mandate, but the police will NOT enforce and no penalties will be handed out. It will be a mandate with no punishment.
I guess I will have to wait an see what it looks like. But I think even a strongly suggestive mandate is way past due. Like I said above, I think most people support a mandate, and it is just a small very loud group of libertarian wing nuts who think people are taking away their civil liberties. These people obviously have NO idea what civil rights are about. This is about slowing the spread and saving lives and has nothing to do with what party you are in.
I’m sure this will pass after the 2nd reading. Because, you know this Mayor wants his dang mandate, at least for a few weeks anyway. What will be wretchingly bad is how the RS6 will pat each other on the back for two of their club members bringing forward the proposal. A thought just came to mind while typing this. Am wondering if this Mayor will keep using his ‘coined’ word whenever he needs something, such as if he decides to campaign for a second term. I can see the billboard now, “I need your dang vote”. Oh, the possibilities of use are endless.
But, this could make Noem look bad. All she would have left are her impressive biceps. And you watch, large tarp masks will now start showing-up to cover the Sanford name. #HowConvenient #LookAtThoseBiceps

After the news today on the increase in S Dakota with the pandemic, it makes the mayor look bad and the Gov .Our mayor needs to find some courage but we will see if he does.
Mandating masks is not constitutional, violates HIPPA, violates ADA.
Everybody in Thailand wears a mask. They went from 7,000+ cases to 59 last week. There’s been no new cases this week. It’s not proven that masks work there but kinda looks like it.
Those willing to wear a mask should quarantine this winter in Thailand. Instead of Snowbirds, MonsoonIguanas. When enough leave, social distancing can be 6 miles (not feet).

It’s Amazing that people want to tell others what to wear and do. If masks work then you are covered by wearing one. If they don’t really work then what is the point other than to provide the illusion of security. Now there are some who think that I should wear a mask to protect others but, if they work and YOU wear one YOU should be good. The CDC and WHO have both said that healthy people should not wear a mask, so what gives?
A virus, size wise, is about .02 Microns which a face mask cannot stop. Now there is this “dropplet”argument. Unless I am sneezing or have ooze coming out my my face I am not spewing droplets so why the need for a mask. If I am donig that I am keeping my rear end at home, thats the right thing to do.
Men in the Military are not allowed to have Facial hair becuase they need to be able to wear a Chemical/Biological Mask. The reason behind this is they need a skin tight seal to prevent “VIRUSES” and CHemical attacks from getting in. Do we really thing a cloth face diaper is going to work agains a Virus. Please do not construe these comments as me bashing people who want to wear a mask. I fully support your use of it and I would not shame you for wearing one. I disagree with people who think they need to tell others what to do.

As I continue to lobby hard against such mandate, keep this in mind …
If this passes, Y OU will be Fining them up to $500 dollarsas per city ordinance 10.999 for excercising a ‘natural right’ to be protected by both the U.S and State Constitution. I find it ironic how so many people are so willing to give up their rights in place of security, safety, and protection by government. IF this council votes in favor of this ‘act’ it shows how left leaning they truly are and how sold they are in destroying the document that helped built this country. NO ONE WILL EVER PAY THE FINE – and it is only a civil fine, which means if you do not pay it, you will have a ‘warrant’ placed until you do. The other problem is this – how would they, the city enforce such a law such as this, it requires someone ( a sheep ) to report you to the Police (the city) in order to issue a citation, that means the CITY is asking Businesses to rat out, report, and turn in their customers, let alone giving up personal information on you, which violates the 4th Amendment, and many “LAWS” of this State. I will NOT do that to any of my customers, nor do I expect anyone to do that to me. I am a ‘Licensed Auto Dealer” – I have taken an oath upon my license to utilize the State DMV System, which gives me access to private information relating to processing certificate of titles, I would be FINED and risk losing my license if I unlawfully gave out someone’s private information. But that is what this type of “ORDINANCE” would allow businesses to do – GIVE the City private information to the city government in order to issue or send a Citation (fine) for not wearing a mask, let alone excercising a “Right” a natural right that is protected by our beloved constitutions.
THIS COUNCIL if they vote “yes” on this proposed ordinance is now showing how liberal, unconstitutional, how left leaning they truly are. And if it’s a 4-4 split, guess who gets the tiebreaker – the one man who whom has wanted a mask mandate all along – the MAYOR.
The MAYOR has publicaly stated that he will NOT allow an ‘un-enforcable’ act become an ordiance, time will tell if honors his word. But I also would like to know how this COUNCIL intends to enforce such ‘act’ if it is only a civil fine, and where they would most likely have to fine 51% of the of residents cause more than half of our population will NOT comply with such ordinance, and I highly doubt you will find any BUSINESS in this city that will rat out one of their customers. 1) it is bad for business to intimidate, use fear tactics to rat out customers; 2) that business will lose clients; and 3) it’s illegal to surrender personal information to anyone without permission, and 4) remember the 4th Amendment.
LET people self govern themselves as they wish to, if they choose to wear a mask, fine, if they choose NOT to wear a mask, that is fine also. BUT STOP voting against the Constitution, which gives INDIVIDUALS the 9th Amendment Protection against any form of government to abridge personal natural rights; and then there is the 10th Amendment which gives the STATE the supreme authority to protect those rights.
The Governor sets the example, and this is just one more way the CITY of Sioux Falls attempts to bully not only the State, but the citizens of said State. I do not expect an response cause the majority of this council does NOT respond to emails.
And lets not forget – the CITY lost their only other 4th Amendment “issue” in court when a concerned citizen of this State took the City of Sioux Falls to court over the “Traffic Control Cameras” set up on a few corners. Where did this ‘great citizen’ win his case? You guessed it – the 4th Amendment. Can the CITY again afford to lose such case in court again …
