‘This is a very walkable city’

Sure, downtown, but unless you have a death wish, avoid traffic in all other parts besides the donut hole*.

So after bilking millions from taxpayers to build a patio in front of privately owned restaurants and condos they are celebrating the bilking today;

“It is one more asset honestly to our community that we can sell to people from all over the world. This is a very walkable city, a very friendly city and this is just one more aspect of people being able to come here and just relax and enjoy their time here and don’t have to be busy all the time,” said Nichelle Lund, senior sales manager for Canopy by Hilton.

Let me guess, Nichelle doesn’t live here.

Over the past 4 years I have put myself thru the commute wringer, 90% of my commuting has been on a bike or walking. One of the reasons I bought an E-Bike is so I can ride it anywhere in the shortest distance possible. I have literally reduced my mileage by finding the shortest travel routes, but sometimes I must endure the southside travel bonanza. Roads built like speedways and peeps that don’t care. Commuting on foot or by bike in this town is risky business, and I am not even mentioning the f’ing morons that don’t leash their dogs who want to run and chase you while the owners are slobbering on their phones. Most sidewalks are dangerous. I would guess, just on my commuter routes that 50% of public sidewalks in this town are in disrepair and bike lanes are at a minimum.

Sure DTSF is very walkable, but it could be better by eliminating one ways and making spaces more pedestrian friendly and discouraging vehicle travel. But this won’t happen.

The thing that cracks me up the most is when you pull into the Steel District, it is NOT welcoming, and the parking is confusing, you have this feeling they want to keep it a secret. Maybe it is a marketing strategy, but if you are trying to bring in clientele with unlimited resources maybe your staff should have knowledge of your menu and what a hot shower is. I think an appropriate name of one of your restaurants should be ‘Good enough’.

I had the pleasure of meeting one of the investors in the Steel District last weekend. I listened, which is rare for me, and while this person was extremely intelligent, they seemed to be naive about how these things work in Sioux Falls. Let’s just say, they were suckered and it may take massive losses on their business adventures before they figure it out.

The tale of two cities is real.

We can make this city walkable, but it would take a massive public education reprogramming of our habits. That ain’t happening anytime soon. I told several of my out of state friends recently who used to live in Sux that unless you own a car here, you are a nobody. Which also makes me laugh. One of my favorite things to do at a stoplight is look at all the miserable human beings trapped in their cars, while I cross lawns and parking lots avoiding most traffic signals LEGALLY. I told someone recently the freedom you feel when you have complete control of your commute makes up for the comfort of your Chevy fart mobile. I never thot I would like this type of commuting, but once you experience the liberty and freedom you will only look at your car as something you need from time to time. I love the saying, ‘Cars are Coffins’. because it is true.

*I call downtown the donut hole, because outside of it is the donut; poor working class neighborhoods that surround the hole. The irony of the developer class DTSF who like to ignore these neighborhoods don’t see the obvious. In order to get to DTSF you must pass thru the poorest neighborhoods in the city. It reminds me of Belize.

Until this city’s GOVERNMENT recognizes the DONUT the DONUT hole will be just that, a HOLE. Mr. Potter was right (C. Lloyd) until you clean up the neighborhoods around the hole all development DTSF will halt, and I don’t need Mr. Potter or a weatherman telling me any different.

Thune as Majority Leader, Noem at DHS and Heels as Lt. Governor!? God help us.

Seems Pitty broke some interesting news today;

Not making any assumptions, but if I had to pick a Lt. Governor, former Legislator/former SF City Councilwoman Christine Erickson would be on my short list as a “get.”

No surprise here, I heard her LOBBYIST job isn’t going so hot, so Christine is looking for an out. Lt. Gov is a full-time position. This would set Christine up for running for mayor, and since the governorship will end in two years, it would be easy to run for mayor. I guess there is worse people . . . 🙁

I was actually happy to see Thune get majority leader, I don’t think he will put up with Trump’s crap. I think you are going to see a ton of Republican lawmakers push back on the insanity, and now they control all 4 houses of government and soon the Federal Reserve.

Kum & Go to change name to Bum & Ho

Not true, but I thot I would start with a funny. It only took 49 years to figure this out;

Maverik, a rival chain that bought Kum & Go in 2023, announced that it’s in “process of rebranding Kum & Go stores, with the intent to unify our entire combined footprint under the Maverik brand,” marking an eventual end to the 49-year-old naughty name.

So I encourage my readers to Kum up with new names, I’m going with Bum & HO.

The Dakota Skab shows it’s true colors

The Skab is at it again, being the propaganda wing of the SD GOP;

The Republican president, who last week won back the White White White House in a landslide victory

OK, they didn’t say White 3 times, but they should have. DJT got 1M more votes then he did in 2020. It wasn’t a landslide, it was a squeaker. He pretty much secured his base and Harris did not. To be honest, it is kind of sad, you had 4 years to improve your numbers and this is all you got?! A landslide in my opinion is taking the popular vote by at least 5 points.

The Skab is a Red Meat publication, and little else. I would be embarrassed as a journalist to be this bias. Oh, I am bias, but I am also an editorial blogger who doesn’t have to fight with my sales department. I also find it ironic that after a few years their subscriptions are only 7,000. Pretty sad considering they are doing public notices for over 200K people. I don’t have a subscription on my site, but if I looked at data I have about 10,000 unique visits a month. I make very little money, so I don’t care, but when you try to be the propaganda wing of the SD GOP and only have a teeny tiny subscription rate it makes you wonder if it really matters. Recently someone who advertised in the Skab told me he got no bump in business from the ad. And I said, ‘Why would yah?’ You have a bunch of right wing nuts commenting and reading the site. Extremists in both parties only make up about 20% of the electorate respectively. So why do we tolerate this horse sh!t? I encourage everyone to cancel their subscription, it’s not news, it’s just huff and puff and a bunch of misspelled words from a boozer staff.

I think once Americans will be forced to eat canned sodium filled vegetables for a year they will realize how much of a mistake it was (can’t wait to see the images of rotting vegetables in California fields). When your policy is based on discrimination, nothing good comes from it. I told friends today, enjoy your local ethic restaurants over the next few months, because after DJT takes office our options will be Panda Express and Taco Bell. As Kramer would say;

One Trump Positive, Noem will no longer be our Governor, maybe

The rumor all along was she was going to be Interior Secretary, but once the ND governor started nosing around, it seems he will get that job OR Secretary of Energy.

Tapping Noem for director of Homeland Security is so comical I had to read it a couple of times and check a couple of other websites, it’s true. She has to go thru Senate Confirmation which will be entertaining to watch her explain why she kills animals in a gravel pit. She is also certifiably the dumbest person on earth. What does a barrel roping snot from Castlewood know about Homeland Security? Nothing. Just like all other major policy she is clueless. The POSITIVE is if confirmed (that might come down to one vote) she will no longer be our Governor. And once she is driven out of DC with all the other Trump clowns, I doubt she can be reinstated. Then we get Larry who will probably appoint his son to throw stuff at people. Just like Palin (who I have compared Noem to for decades) she will fizzle out like a Prairie Dog fart.

Our still in bed, hungover, local reporters have yet to break the news, I’m sure they are busy chasing a food truck in Mobridge.

As for the Popular Vote and Trump, notice he only got 1 million more votes in 2024 compared to 2020, it is Harris who failed to get the 10 million votes that Biden got.

2016, Trump 63M, Clinton 66M

2020, Trump 74M, Biden 81M

2024, Trump 75M, Harris 71M
