To say I am not surprised would be an understatement;

It was only Avera and Sanford doctors and media relations staff along journalists at Thursday’s news conference. In many previous news conferences, people with the South Dakota Department of Health or City of Sioux Falls have also attended.

While I appreciate them reaching out, I ask why we are relying on the private sector to inform us? There is NO mention of this presser on any of the City of Sioux Falls multiple media sources.

A candidate for mayor said this in an interview;

Taneeza Islam, a lawyer who announced her run for mayor in October says the more information the people have on COVID-19 the better. She would like to see weekly updates from the mayor’s office and…

“When the city council voted to encourage masking, the people of Sioux Falls listened, all they needed was little extra encouragement, that was not a mandate, and I’m not talking about new regulations but just the mere encouragement for people in our community to take this seriously once again really explain how serious it is needs to come from the mayor’s office,” said Islam.

As I have mentioned before, the mayor’s job, according to charter is to not legislate and write policy, the job is running the day to day operations of the city. That means informing the public and instructing staff to keep the public safe, but he seems to want to blame people in Councilor Neitzert’s district for the problem;

“The northwest quadrant of our city for instance has a much lower vaccination rate than the rest of the city so we’ve done research to understand why is that and how can we counteract the messages whether it’s, in some cases its just availability and we’ve set up a mobile vaccine unit that goes out to those communities,” said TenHaken.

What I find ironic is that TenHaken, with the power of executive order, could mandate a vaccination requirement for ALL city employees, or at least those in close contact with the public, he doesn’t need the blessing of the city council. I see police officers all the time not even wearing masks in public. Towards the end of the story, Tom Hansen said that the mayor said the city is dealing with skeleton crews in many city departments because of (covid) sick city employees. I have argued that a vaccination mandate for city employees is a taxpayer protection for our investment in their health and well being. What do you think it is costing us as citizens for healthcare costs associated with covid for employees who choose NOT to be vaccinated? I have even said we should give city employees a bonus for getting a shot.

Islam went a step further on her FB page;

Being mayor isn’t just sharing good news, it means having hard conversations about challenges facing our community. It means using the tools in your toolbox to keep our city safe.

I like that last sentence 🙂

Besides Covid, this city faces many more challenges, but you will never hear it from Poops. I have no issues with the power of positivity, I have no issues with having faith in a higher power, I have no issues with lauding the great things going on in Sioux Falls. But effective leaders take the good with the bad. Mayor Poops philosophy is we just ignore the bad, hide in your basement, tell some dad jokes, heat up the gravy and it may just go away.

  1. Ofr course – the base frame for all true Christian believers is that THIS life is all illusion – fake – deception. It is the life AFTER DEATH that is where REAL life lives. So, with that base frame of reference underpinning their psyche is it any wonder they feel perfectly righteous when they choose to ignore the “bad” (too hard) parts of life?? After all, it’s just a bad dream. It’ll all be over when they are “woke” by Jeebus.

  2. Per a KELO segment last night, the hospitals announced they are at capacity for Omicron. Per CNN, COVID numbers are as bad as before. Ready for another lockdown? You hardly hear from TenHaken lately. I’m thinking he wants Mayor on his resume but is working on higher office. Hey, we’re here. We’re out here. We’ll be voting when you run for Governor. Do something. Anything.

  3. No reason to, at this point, its all media hyper-babble. I think at this point in time, as a country, state, city, its time to move on and think positive. And I think that is the direction the Mayor is trying to take here.

    Relax, Enjoy Life, Have Fun.

  4. C’mon, do you really believe some dirty cloth over your face actually does anything? Man dating? Are you kidding me? The vax doesn’t stop getting it or spreading it. We need to move on, the more that get it the sooner it will be behind us. If you are fat (Detroit Lewis I’m looking at you) or not healthy, stay out of the public and let the healthy live their lives.

  5. I will agree with PTH on one thing, I hoping this is the final blow of Covid. But if you watch the presser, you will see this is NOT over and our hospitals are maxxed out and that is NOT hyperbole or fake news, it is reality. As for vaccines, well I have followed the science. I got Covid before vaccines in late 2021, I was double vaccinated with Pfizer the following Spring and just got boosted. I haven’t even had a sniffle since getting Covid and I have been directly exposed to people with it dozens of times. I have also had zero side effects from the vaccination except a sore arm. Are vaccinations 100%? Nope. Nobody ever said they were, but if you look at the data 99% of people who are dying are either non-vaccinated or have underlying health conditions. My guess is that this will fizzle out for the most part this summer and we may have a mild spike again next winter. But to assume that city leadership has handled this well is laughable. There is so many more things the city could have done, but Noem played the Trump card, and Poops played the Noem card. Politically speaking I find it strange since a majority of people in SF are vaccinated. The anti-vax people are a tiny minority, and if I was the mayor or a city council I would ignore them and just pretend they don’t exist. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, that is your choice, but does your opinion really matter since it is based on nothing but lies? Nope. When you have a mayor more concerned about the governor’s sneakers than her policies, this is where we are at. Sioux Falls government is a rudderless ship and it has been since this guy was elected.

  6. “Get the vax and end the spread” is all we heard for the last year.

We got the vax and it’s still spreading. So now you/they change the message to “vax saves lives” and you think that will convince people now?

The vax is a personal responsibility and the government message has fucked that up from the beginning. More government mixed fear leads to less vaxxed.

  7. “…but Noem played the Trump card, and Poops played the Noem card…”

    Now, that’s rap quality!

    But how about this, too:

    “…..And the anti-vaxers aren’t playing with a full deck…”

What about the Governor’s sneakers? My guess is they are not Chuck Taylors, most likely New Balance. You know what the “N” stands for, right? And it ain’t “Nice”.
I always wear Under Armour to Silverstar, then spray some Armor All on the car, and then boots to Pierre, which ain’t too far. It’s just a thing, like covid. Nothing lasts forever. Get your shots and kiss covid good-bye and together we can give it a lid. #WhereDidYouGetThoseSneakers? #CreepersSneakers

  8. The vaccine does not stop spread. Thats been proven by all the people who have gotten the vid after the vax (me and all of family as proof). Israel is the best example of this.

That fact makes the herd immunity as impossible and irrelevant. AND this is why more and more governments and doctors say that mandates and lockdowns after this Omniwave are counter productive.

    https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/how-omicron-highlights-fading-hope-herd-immunity-covid-2022-01-20/

    https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2022-01-21/l-a-county-scenario-suggests-covid-herd-immunity-is-unlikely

  9. You are twisting what I said, I’m talking about serious illness and death, you are talking about total immunity which is NOT possible.

  10. Why must you people attack people based on their beliefs, their desires, and what they expect from government or lack of? Why you claim Anti-Vaxxers are anti-america or against humanity, when I have met with and talked to many of them, and they are great people. This is what is wrong with the LEFT today, if people do not get their way, they go on the attack and begin to ridicule people, name call, insult, and insult them. Is that the kind of leader you wish to have?

We have bigger problems today folks, we have an Economy that is so far gone, so burdered by debt, that it dont matter if a person gets sick or not. Get back to work, earn your keep, and positively change America. The Republicans for the most part do believe in “Freedom of Choice” and “preserving the Constitution” – Democrats rather destroy that document cause it gets in their way.

  11. With all due respect, the presser was hosted by Avera Medical Group and Sanford Health.
It is not proper for KELOland to infer criticism of government officials because they didn’t attend someone else’s party.

  12. Mike, if you don’t have a medical exemption to NOT get a vaccination you are simply being selfish. Does that make you a bad person? NO. Do I hate you? NO. It just makes you selfish. I could care less about your ignorance. This country and world would have been back to normal 6 months ago if people would just stop being selfish. I could care less what you want to do in your private life, but when your selfishness effects other people’s lives, you no longer understand the meaning of liberty and freedom, you are just selfish.

  13. One cannot force what they have no intention to enforce:

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. – Romans 13: 1-14

IF “WE” gain our authority from God, who gave us Life, the Liberty, the Right to Govern ourselves based on the natural laws given to us by god, “WE” shall respect those we put in power to govern our State.

Article 6, Section 1 (Bill of Right) – All men are born equally free and independent, and have certain inherent rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, of acquiring and protecting property and the pursuit of happiness. To secure these rights governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

One who does not consent to be governed as such, the government nor those appointed by man shall have authority over us, for ‘we’ gain our authorty from God, who provided us the Natural Right to Govern Ourselves freely unless one violates one of the 10 Commandments.

IF GOD is the ultimate authority over man, and man created government to rule society based on the consent of man, therefore by law, grants man the right to do what he so chooses, you have NO RIGHT to “force” someone to do what he does not wish to do.

  14. You can quote fictional texts until you are blue in the face. At the end of the day, you are selfish, selfish, selfish.

  15. Well, as I stated, and shared, if that is what you wish to believe, that is totally within your right to do so. But again, is that really how you want to lead your life forward, going around attacking, insulting people, slandering people, misrepresenting people for differences in opinion, or belief?

You may say “My God” is a fictional God all day long, but at the end of the day, “WE THE PEOPLE” have taken an oath to each other to always stand together under the same God, in order to govern our state, grounded in the Consent of the Governed, and if “WE” all took the same oath, as per our Constitution, The People of South Dakota have agreed, that no one shall be forced to do anything beyond their consent, and the fact remains, WE THE PEOPLE nor our legislature, have adopted any such law that requires them to be forced to take specific medical treatment, or act in a specific manner.

Now, if I am correct, how do you do battle with the Majority of 877,000 people making up South Dakota who do NOT consent to your such belief?

You claimed that the so called “Anti-Vaccine Population” is the minority, but that so called Minority tend to have the most ‘votes’ in the Legislature, let alone, that so called “majority” that you speak of who supports vaccines or the mask mandates have failed to convince the population to adopt such law to mandate vaccines or masks.

    It works both ways…

  16. l3wis, You may see it as selfish for people that choose not to get vaccinated, but I see it as selfish for others to push their fears and insecurities onto others, especially when you have NO view into the inner workings of why said people are choosing not to be vaccinated in the first place. Why on earth should others place anyone else above themselves and their own families first anyway? Sorry if it bothers you that MY own family, my health, and theirs are top priority to me than that of others, but I guarantee you others feel the same… it is after all the EXACT reason why others believe that unvaccinated should get vaccinated because they think it will protect THEIR own family first.

See, EVERYONE is selfish. And there is NOTHING wrong with that.

I dont let strangers and people not in my immediate family make medical, financial, educational, etc decisions for us. That is for those in my family alone to make.

  17. You both have a warped definition of selfishness.

Mike, do you even know the meaning of slander? I won’t even go there.

There is a difference between believing in a higher power and believing in religious text. When our founding fathers referenced God they were not referring to a specific religion but faith in a higher power in general. While several of the founding fathers were Christian, several were not. Basing our Republic on a Christian God or Text would have made us a theocracy, we are not. Be careful, there is a distinction between religion and faith.

Also, NO ONE has been mandated to take the vaccination by anyone in government. While the medical worker mandate now stands (if the establishment you work at receives Federal subsidies), most hospitals have already required it, just like they require the flu shot every year. You also have a choice, if you don’t want the shot, you can quit.

This is why your arguments are weak, you keep claiming someone is forcing you to get a shot yet nobody has, we are asking you to get a shot for the good of humanity and this is why you are being selfish.

Nobody has put a gun to your head, no one has dragged you to jail, no one has stripped your liberty and rights away. You face NO consequences for not getting vaxxed, at the end of the day you are just selfish.

  18. Mike Z-ok, we’ll just face the fact that the large majority of anti-vaxxers are Republicans and that far mor “Pubs” are dying from Covid than Dems. Yes, its your choice to die from it without doing anything to prevent it.
Next elections, there’ll be far fewer Republicans voting, is all.

  19. When polio raged in the early 50’s, striking a lot of youth etc., when Saulk invented the Polio shot, caring people got it gleefully and it has been under mandate for all since and polio is damned rare; world wide.

Mike Z, I’m certain that your kids (if you had any) got the shots before attending school in SD. Right?

  20. Mike Z, mostly members of the Republican party are not getting the shot because Biden wants us to. ANS, mostly
Republicans are dying from the virus for their stance.

Come next elections, obviously there will be fewer of those voting Republican at the polls…..

  21. Thousands die everyday from alcohol but you choose the keep drinking!

    Selfish.

The vax does not stop spread that’s proven Therefore STFU about protect others.

  22. The only time an individual’s abuse of alcohol harms others is when you commit a crime under the influence and last I checked there are consequences for that. There are NO consequences for not getting vaxxed.

LJL, you say some pretty stupid crap sometimes, like comparing a highly contagious virus to alcoholism.

    Try again.

  23. How is not wearing a mask any different from not telling your partner that you are HIV positive?

Well, there is one mitigating circumstance, however, which is, that you might not know you have HIV or covid, but your activities should pretty much tell you that you probably do, and the more you get around the more you can spread something that you don’t even know you have.

Janklow, back in the day, publicly fantasied about quarantining HIV positive people. If he was alive today, and governor, and suggested the same for covid, all of these right wing, anti-vaxers in our state would be giving Janklow a thumbs up on his idea. #rightwinghypocrisy

( and Woodstock adds: “You know, you need to be careful when you start talking about HIV and using phrases like “publicly fantasied”…. “Just saying”….. )

  24. I never claimed any one is forcing me or anyone to do anything. You people have been public shaming people for believing a specific way, yet alone not accepting your opinion regarding science in relation to COVID or the Vaccine, or the Mask Mandate, whatever it be.

You speak on the thought of one group being SELFISH for opposing mandates regarding vaccines, claiming they are being selfish, but you, selfishly want that same group of people to adapt or to accept your belief system.

You are correct, the Founding Fathers ‘used’ the term CREATOR and not god; but you got it wrong – the PEOPLE in the name of “WE THE PEOPLE of SOUTH DAKOTA” codified in our “founding document” – our State Constitution, that “our creator” is GOD, the LORD ALMIGHTY, and have taken an oath to him, to uphold his word, as well as governing in the name of God, the Lord Almighty, as evidenced by our preamble:

“We, the people of South Dakota, grateful to Almighty God for our civil and religious liberties, in order to form a more perfect and independent government, establish justice, insure tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and preserve to ourselves and to our posterity the blessings of liberty, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the state of South Dakota.”

Take the time to ‘read’ the book of ROMANS, which is referenced to “God’s People” – and you will understand what I am saying.

As for being Selfish – you may look at it as being selfish to not get the vaccine to protect others, but at the same time, it is also Selfish to attempt to misguide, let alone attempt to convince people to do what you want them to do based on your beliefs as well. Both groups need to respect each other, and understand the opinions of both sides, if they wish to help play a role in making this State a better place to live.

It is SELFISH of you people to say they are glad that all republicans are dieing off cause they wont take the vaccine.

“WE” are NOT Anti-Vaccine, the fact is – “WE” are Anti-Mandate, forcing people to do what they choose NOT to do.

  25. Wait a minute, are you saying that Romantix has something to do with God and people, too? Or just how his people are made?

  26. So Boris Johnson lifted all things Wuhan as it is not a pandemic any longer, but endemic-meaning it is going to be with us forever and we have to live with it….like we do with colds, flu, etc. Those SELFISH British bastards, don’t they know the echo chamber that is South Dacola doesn’t agree with science? I’m just too terrified to go outside! I mean only 99.8% of us are going to survive this thing!

But, you clowns keep believing Brandon! Let’s go!!

  27. L3wis….if the vax doesn’t stop you from getting or giving Wuhan….why should anyone lose their job for refusing to take this experimental jab? Cause Xiden says so?

Vaxxed or unvaxxed doesn’t seem to matter, the very sick or unhealthy are going to be the ones you see in the Obituaries. Healthy, non obese people are not the ones dying from this. I would suggest it is much more important to lose some weight than get a vax. THIS is what the healthcare systems should be screaming from the rooftops! But, that doesn’t make them any $$$$.

I’m in B2B outside sales, haven’t shut down at all throughout this, and still haven’t met any customers losing an employee due to dying from Wuhan. I know some old folks that are on oxygen 24/7, got Wuhan, couldn’t be vaxxed, and pulled right through this. If they didn’t die, who will?

Originally, even The Great Kristi Noem said when this started that we would be over run by 5000 very sick people, which would cripple our hospitals, requiring the National Guard to build field hospitals to house these terribly sick people. But, Kristi and Trump did such a great job controlling this, along with our mayor, that scenario was thwarted-Thank GOD for them!!!!

Fast forward to Dementia Joe not doing nearly as good of a job, many more good people dying on his watch….so we need to blame people, it couldn’t be Xiden’s fault! And you saying Republicans are the problem- you know better Scott, believe the science-it’s overwhelmingly minorities that haven’t gotten the jab (probably trust issues?).

I’m sure it’s the racist whitey keeping them down and not giving access to healthcare, jabs, or treatment. Might even be the huge food desserts we have here, this not allowing a good diet for underprivileged, making them obese.

  28. Not taking the Vaccination = Selfish. That is a bunch of bull and you know it. The funny thing is when this whole crap started, the goal posts have moved constantly on recommendations, mandates, masks, lockdowns, etc etc.
Fact – This is not stopping the spread of COVID

So now the goal post is being moved to tell those who don’t want to take the vaccine we are selfish because hospital beds are filling up. It used to be we were selfish for not getting it to stop the spread.

What I have come to the conclusion is this, I am not getting it, I have no clue the long term side affects and NO ONE DOES and its truly not helping anyone. Its only helping Big Pharma line their pockets. If you think I am selfish for not going this route and protecting myself from an experimental shot, then go for it.

Simple facts are Goal posts continue to move all the time and no one truly knows anything. I say its time we bring in the HAZMAT suits for everyone to wear all the time, that will fix it. Pssshhh gessh people lets get on with our lives, the fact even Bill Maher is over it says a lot.

  29. When all other selfish and ignorant excuses fail right wingers like to go full circle and start from the beginning with their excuses. MRNA has been researched for 30 years. They didn’t start from scratch. The irony is if 90% of Americans would have just got vaccinated last Spring we wouldn’t still be talking about this, but right wingers like to bitch about the failure of the left, and they have failed, they should stop apologizing for half of country who live in caves and swing from trees.

  30. MRNA has been researched for cancer for 30 years, and the reason it hasn’t been used for cancer is because it didn’t work.

  31. Scottie, I know you like man dating…..but, even if 100% of us got the jab, it wouldn’t have changed a thing! Omicron supposedly came from Africa….where something like 7% is vaccinated, and this is a global endemic, not a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Midwest, US, North America, etc endemic. The jab isn’t working against Omicron, so it wouldn’t have worked to stop it, science Scottie. I feel bad you don’t understand, and just keep following the shepherds, I wish I could explain this simple enough that you can understand, I’m sorry lil buddy.

  32. Scott – Your response is laughable at best. These are not excuse but, just plain facts. The goal posts have been moved non stop. MNRA may have been around for 30 years but, not ONE damn vaccine has been brought to market until COVID one. If it was so damn good or worked why didn’t anyone bring one to market until now? No one is complaining about the LEFT on this
issue but, you are flat out telling people we are selfish. Even if EVERYONE got a vaccine the virus is not going anywhere as the Vaccine does not prevent getting it. So your point of “we wouldn’t be talking about this” is just false.

Now we are not only talking about boosters but, one maybe every 6 months and guess what, that’s called a failed product as it does NOT work. How many boosters does one need to take until some of you realize this thing is really not that great.

The guy who invented this stuff has even come out and talked about some of the risks. Why would I take something that I have a 99.9% chance to survive as I am relatively young, healthy, and have no comorbidities. My selfish @ss is going to sit this one out and since I have had Rona already, like many, I will take the natural immunity, thank you very much
