Elections

UPDATE: Is the mayor following election financial disclosure rules?

UPDATE: Watch the mayor take his ball and go home when questioned by KSFY about his financial interests. You can also see that the mayor has a family trust (DOC: Huether-trust) Makes you wonder how many of his ‘investments’ he is hiding in this trust.

Heck, even if I had decided to run for council, my financial disclosure would be longer.

The Mayor doesn’t even mention he works for the city. Maybe it’s a volunteer position? STOP VOLUNTEERING!

As I understand it, any dividends over $2,000 a year need to be listed from your investments, oh, and the names of those investments. My KFC comment card is longer.

I want to see the mayor’s birth certificate. (Stinky-Links)

Greg Jamison Signs Mayor Integrity & Trust Pledge

IMG_0596Sioux Falls SD – Greg Jamison signed the Mayor Integrity Trust Pledge today at 1:00 pm.  The signing of the Mayor Integrity Trust Pledge signify to all the people of Sioux Falls that Jamison will not make personal investments into land or any other business where his decisions as mayor could give him an unfair advantage to make money.

“As Mayor, I pledge to all the people of Sioux Falls, that while in office I or my spouse will not be an investor in any real estate development or make other business investments that require oversight and approval by the City Council and/or city employees who are under my direct control. I disclose any and all investments that are currently in violation of this pledge.” said Jamison.

Jamison wants all the people of Sioux Falls to know that he does not personally have land investments as seen on his financial interest statement filed Monday.  Recently, Mike Huether was quoted in the December 15, 2013 Argus Leader stating, “Come on, you’re telling me that Mayor Dave Munson, Mayor Gary Hanson, Mayor Rick Knobe or any of the mayors before me have never invested in real estate while in office?”  As Jonathan Ellis reported, none of the mayors mentioned had any land investments.  Gary Hanson noted, “I turned down those simply because it would only appear to be an impropriety on my part.  Right now I know that a couple of those folks have become millionaires in those investments that I chose not to be an investor.”
Jamison had this to say about signing the pledge, “Nothing the mayor does should create any question as to the integrity of his office. The mayor should not have an unfair advantage to make money from his service to Sioux Falls. In the end it all comes down to trust. Having direct control over city employees and having land development deals violates the trust voters have instilled in you. That is why I’m signing this pledge to all the people of Sioux Falls. We need to restore integrity and trust to the mayor’s office.”  Jamison invites Mike Huether to join him in signing the pledge to disclose any conflicted investment and not make investments that the office of mayor has direct influence over.

Who decided on the super precincts and the E-Poll books for the municipal election?

Good question. I guess if I had to answer, in the capacity of our current mayor, I would say the city clerk in cooperation with the school district. But in all reality it was SOS Gant’s idea to push the E-Poll books (because the people who supply the equipment and software are big SD GOP campaign contributors). And the city clerk and school district along with the county auditor, ate it up, hook-line-and-sinker.

It doesn’t only surprise me that the mayor didn’t know the answer to this question, but the answer is detrimental to the SD Dem party. Voter suppression, the key to the GOP domination in SD. You know the old saying, ‘Follow the Money’. Our super precincts and E-Poll books are the epitome of voter manipulation. While this young buck understands how the system works, I also understand how the system could be easily hacked and manipulated. How easy would it be for John Doe to vote at every single precinct?

The April 8th election results will be very telling, even if our mayor doesn’t understand the process.

FROM CITIZENS FOR INTEGRITY:

Super Precincts are designed to keep people from voting under the guise of streamlining the process of voting. We no longer have places in our neighborhoods a person can walk to vote.

The voter now must have transportation to reach the voting booth. Just another way to block the free and unencumbered access to the polls.

On March 14, 2014 Mayor Huether shows how little he cares for the average person’s access to voting.

The City Clerk has been before the City Council explaining this process promoted by SOS Jason Gant.

Super Precincts or Vote Centers can become a poll-tax for the elderly, disabled, poor and rural voters — because of the additional travel, time, missed work or physical stress of waiting in long lines to vote. Voters can no longer walk or travel a short distance to vote. For disabled, the voting location is no longer in a familiar neighborhood, and may be in a busy crowded facility. Election officials have to rely more on expensive and error prone technologies such as electronic poll books and touch-screen voting machines. When equipment crashes or fails to work, greater numbers of voters are simultaneously disenfranchised. Denial of service attacks affect larger portions of voters. (More eggs in one basket)

Think of it this way, when the aforementioned can’t make it to the polls, the privileged are the only voters.

Uh? I dunno?

Good evening, I am Bruce Danielson, a resident of Sioux Falls and chairman of Citizen’s for Integrity.

I attended a forum last Friday to listen to their speaker talk about our town.

In my role with Citizen’s for Integrity I am attending as many forums as I can fit in. One of these gatherings was last Friday’s Democratic Forum at the VFW. This political organization has met for decades every Friday with a different speaker each week. I am sure many of you have appeared there.

During the post speech Q&A period, I asked the speaker why the city’s advocacy sessions disguised as education why the 3 Charter Revision Commission ballot measures are not also mentioned. Are these not also on the ballot? Can any of you tell us right now what these measures are?

We are offered a cute little green tri‐fold advocational brochure giving the city’s wishes disguised as information, to defeat the 4 citizen ballot measures. We have citizens who have worked hard to clean up the messy language of the city’s charter, but I guess it’s not worth mentioning. Where the city attorney could actually make a positive difference, there is nothing presented?

The Friday speaker stated we citizens were not interested in them, so the items do not need to be explained. The speaker did not seem to understand the Charter is the city’s equivalence to the State or National Constitution. We are asked to make  changes to basic city rules you are charged with complying with.

At the meeting our speaker was asked why the silence, his answer was, “Where do you stop?” This was a strange response when the speaker has promoted his political views on the city’s dime and time. For some reason, basic information is not necessary but advocacy in the name of education is required.

Some of us like to be informed, not propagandized. So we are left to hunt for the miniscule charter question information hidden on the city’s website.

We have several more city Advocational meetings yet to be held, will the city treat the hard work of the Charter Revision Commission as something we the citizens deserve to understand?

So to the speaker of last week’s Democratic Forum, we ask you direct the City Attorney’s Office to put some effort into the Charter ballot measure education as you have the advocational defeat of all the citizen initiatives.

Thank you Mayor Huether and council for helping the people of Sioux Falls understand the need for our new petition effort.

2014 Municipal Election Forums

The first Candidate Forum will occur at Carnegie Town Hall, Wednesday Mar 19, 2014 at 5:30pm to 9:00pm. Hosted by the League of Women Voters and the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Argus Leader ‘100 Eyes’ will host separate candidate forums starting on Monday, March 24. They will separate the four races into separate forums. I guess Lalley’s panel will consist of him, Brian Allen and Vernon Brown (I told him that Vernon would have to sit out on the Central District forum because he gave money to Michelle)

Also next week (not sure what day) Parks and Rec director Don Kearney will be on an early edition (11 AM) of ‘100 Eyes’ to discuss the Spellerberg pool and Parks budgeting.
