Mayor Subprime Mike Huether

Cloaked in secrecy

“I need to work on my DECEPTION acumen a little more.” (Screenshot, KELO-TV video).

I think I.L. Wiederman said it best at this Listening and Learning session with the mayor;

“Why did they say they did fire her? It’s cloaked in secrecy,” I.L. Wiederman said.

Huether did admit he made a mistake, when it came to the process, that is;

“I wish that I would have engaged them more to try to help them understand what we were trying to accomplish in terms of providing dignity, professionalism and safety to the process. But I didn’t do that. That was a mistake; that was a mistake,” Huether said.

But no mention of making a mistake by firing Owen.

UPDATE: Ellis from the Argue Endorser had a good column about the firing today.

The former clerk, Debra Owen, sent councilors an amortization schedule, a forecast showing what the city would pay each year for the next 22 years to pay off the bonds. It showed that in six years, the annual payments would jump to $10 million.

As we all expected, this has to do with the Events Center, but are councilors Erpenbach and Aguliar the ones up in arms about this? Or are they the scapegoats?

You’d think this would be valuable information, right? After all, we’re talking about the biggest single investment the city ever has made. But for her efforts, Owen received at least one phone call from a city councilor who was furious that she had sent out the information.

Unlike the AL, I will tell you who that person (probably) was; Jim Entenman. I’m about 99.5% sure. Just like the mayor, he wants this EC to pass. He has been made the fool on many task forces not getting this done, and I’m sure he flipped a lid when Debra was out spreading the truth before a public vote.

The mayor and councilors say they can’t talk about it because it’s a personnel issue. I have managed to piece it all together, off the record, from several sources. I hope it all becomes public. Let’s put it this way: The people who say they can’t talk because it’s a personnel issue aren’t protecting Owen. They are protecting themselves.

I still haven’t pieced it all together myself, but I think it is unfortunate that the AL wouldn’t just print what Ellis’ educated opinion is on the matter, especially if the proceedings were improper. If it is all true, how could Ellis and the AL be sued for slander?

Mayor Huether to address civic group Sunday (18th) @ 2 PM

Hell, I will even answer questions standing on my freaking head!

I got some cloudy details about this event from two different people, but since I don’t take notes while drinking malt beverages, these are the only two things I am clear about:

• Mayor Huether will be taking questions from a civic group concerned about the future of Sioux Falls, tomorrow at the Caille Branch library at 2 PM.

• It is open to the public, and they are welcome to ask questions – about the future, that is, not Debra Owen 🙂

I know there is a couple of South DaCola foot soldiers that can fill us in on more deets. Please, the comments area is reserved for you.

Minnehaha County has money problems? Get outta here!

Don’t believe the county has money problems, take a tour of the fairgrounds.

Newsflash! Minnehaha County mismanages money!

Minnehaha County’s deepening financial problems are straining relations with the city of Sioux Falls, which partners with the county on key programs.

The county commission’s decision to cut funding to Metro Communications, the museum system and libraries means the city also could cut funding to those programs, albeit reluctantly.

This is nothing new. I have always thought the county has spent money unwisely. Heck, let’s look at their track record.

• They went and bought a homeless shelter without the support of city money. Do I think the shelter is needed? YES! Do I think the county should be going this alone? NO!

• They also allowed money to be embezzled for years from the SE Fair because of very little oversight.

• They bought an ornate fence for the county administration’s parking lot (yeah, we really needed that).

• They bought a military vehicle for the Sheriff’s department (I guess to capture phone booth VL casino robbers easier).

Heck, I could go ON and ON, and I don’t even follow them that closely.

At least the city is taking a cautionary approach. But one wonders WHO the city IS after reading this quote;

“I am not going to push for more co-op agreements until I’m fully confident we’ve got our own ducks in a row the way I want them,” Huether said.

The way YOU want them? Who died and made you king?

Slow news day? Stormland TV’s Lovefest w/ Mayor Huether continues

Don’t cry for Argentina Mike.

I guess there was no antenna tower elevators to climb or clouds to chase today. Stormland dedicated two stories to everyone’s favorite mayor. The first one is about his love affair with couches and predatory credit cards;

“When you’re in corporate America, there are days or weeks or even months where you’re being challenged to a level that you cannot believe. I reached a point in 1999 where if I didn’t do something, something really bad would happen to me in my health,” Huether said.”When you wake up on the couch and all of a sudden your wife comes in and says, ‘Honey, you got to go to bed,’ or we got to find a way for you to release this stress and anxiety. That was the wakeup call that I needed.”

Well if your wife is asking you to come to bed . . .

The other story is about his pipe dream of a profit making Events Center.

The mayor says the building will make the city money.

“I’ll look at you with a straight face and say, you bet it will. And who will reap the rewards? The people of Sioux Falls will,” Huether said.

I wonder if Mike used to sell ocean front property in Nebraska?

“Yeah, I just got in an amazing hang-ten surf ride in North Platte the other day! Cowabunga!”
