SF School District

I’m starting to wonder if the SF School District is also hiding the Holy Grail?

Once again, the SF School District denies public information to the public;

The district denied a recent request for a copy of Superintendent Pam Homan’s contract, citing an exception to the state’s open records law that makes “personnel information other than salaries and routine directory information” private.

Yawn. Typical of Homan and her administration. Remember when they shredded all the new school name suggestions from the public for Rosa Parks school? Why? Because I can pretty much guess that Rosa Parks wasn’t one of the recommendations. This is typical of Homan, yet the school district denies she has anything to do with it . . .

Simons said that even if Homan wanted to release her own contract, the law would not allow it, because “in South Dakota, personnel files belong to the employer.”

Who pays Homan’s wage and ’employs’ her?

Novstrup called the Sioux Falls decision “outrageous.”

“They’re saying, ‘We are spending the taxpayers’ money in a way that we don’t want you to know,’ ” he said. “We’re still not to the point where the elected official or the bureaucrat understands that the citizens own the government.”

It’s kinda like your boss handing you a paycheck then you turn around and tell him to do your job.

Instead of handing out FREE or reduced lunches, maybe we should hand out FREE birth control?

And the Obama administration has done just that;

Pro-lifers are horrified at the announcement Monday that the Obama administration has approved a recommendation from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to guarantee full health insurance coverage for birth control, including the so-called “morning-after” pill, under the Affordable Care Act.

Okay, I’m a little late on this announcement (no pun intended) but it ties in well with this story on Stormland TV (by my new favorite reporter, Ms. Winters) about free and reduced lunches increasing;

SIOUX FALLS, SD – More and more families are applying for free or reduced lunch in the Sioux Falls School District.

Every year, for the past six years, the numbers have increased at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.

Make no mistake folks, over population is the root of most of our problems in this world. Global warming, hunger, war, annoying text messages, can all be blamed on it. Wear a freaking rubber for God’s sake, or for at least my sake.

SF School Board proves how out of touch they really are

This should come as no surprise that the school board wants to belly up to a trough;

The board voted unanimously recently to adopt a resolution urging voters to support the Moving South Dakota Forward group’s initiated measure, which seeks to increase the sales tax rate from 4 percent to 5 percent, splitting the proceeds evenly between public schools and Medicaid providers.

Yet there is NO guarantee the money will go towards these objectives. Remember video lottery? Or better yet the state’s investment fund that has $800 million dollars sitting in it to help with school funding when we come up short? Instead of encouraging increasing a regressive sales tax why not lobby our legislature to use the investment fund? If this makes the ballot, it will fail hard, and we will be back to square one, an irresponsible governor and legislature refusing to use emergency funds for their original intent. It’s time school boards across the state hold down our governor and legislature and give them a good old fashioned apple rub.

It only took the MSM in StormLand a month to look into this and get a non-answer

Betsy Homan is not the daughter of SF Super Pam Homan when she is punched in at her job at STI.

As South DaCola reported (due to a tip from a reader) there seems to be some questionable nepotism going on in the SF School District. Well, Stormland to the rescue;

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Superintendent Pam Homan is facing new questions about whether she’s following district policy after her daughter was hired to work at Southeast Technical Institute.

According to the Nepotism policy, no one can be hired that would be supervised by an immediate family member. Further, no member of the Superintendent’s immediate family can be hired in any continuing capacity by the district.

Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Nepotism.

Alberty says it is not a violation of policy because while Southeast Tech is governed by the Sioux Falls School Board, which approves hires, he says it operates essentially as a separate entity and has a separate nepotism policy, which gives Southeast Tech’s president employee authority.

According to the organizational chart for Southeast Tech, Holcomb reports to Homan, who reports to the school board.

Once again. Pretty cut and dry. Nepotism.

When we asked Homan to comment for this story, we received an email from a staffer saying in this matter, policy speaks for itself.

It sure does. It is nepotism. But will the school board do anything about it? Probably not, that would require them to cut their apron strings from Homan and the district’s attorneys. And once again, Pammy gets away with bending the rules to her benefit.
