    Here are some big names who have played in Sioux City since the Tyson Center opened over eight years ago. Bill Cosby, Sheryl Crow, BB King, Bob Dylan, Wynton Marsalis, David Copperfield, Willie Nelson, Jewel, Alison Kraus, and Jerry Seinfeld. Impressive acts. But guess what? They played at the ORPHEUM THEATRE in Sioux City, not the “Events” center.

    I know. I know. That nasty ass Sioux City comparison. How do a bunch of down river hicks dealing with our turds we turn loose get such good acts? And why can’t the Washington Pavillion do the same? Hmmmm

    All of those acts have played the Pavilion or SF to, accept I think, Jewel and Marsalis. But I think they might have played here to.

    The point I was making is that we don’t need a new EC to get good entertainment.

    Damn right it is. I know I have brought it up before, but I have seen some of my favorite acts in 1,000 seat venues. Fugazi at the Pomp Room or Lucinda Williams at First Avenue, two very memorable concerts. Intimacy will always overide grandeur. But I will admit when I saw the Police at the Qwest, it was a pretty good show.

    All the Pavilion needs is some good self marketing. Instead of society climbers who only are concern of their local image and what country club they are members of…

    We have a FANTASTIC venue. But if you can’t or don’t want to promote it, then it is time for major management restructure!
