April 2013

Poetry Club w/ Steve Boint

Interlude
(after the ice storm of 2013)

Let us walk the asphalt sea
now that the ice is off the trees
and view the islands of debris.

Let us speak
of easier times,
of neighbors
and building a home
(not rebuilding).
Remember that owl sitting in the walnut
where the big branch used to be?

Come—
let us stroll and reminisce
and share the future’s hopeful kiss.

Sanford shot down

Okay, this story is a few days old, but interesting.

T. Denny Sanford amassed his fortune by selling last-ditch credit cards to consumers with bad credit.

The philanthropist who has poured millions into Sanford Health is known in banking circles for the billions he made with his South Dakota companies First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard, one of the largest subprime credit card operations in the country.

Now, as Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson looks into merger talks between Sanford Health and Fairview Health Services, some are asking whether Sanford’s background should be part of the debate.

“When I saw that Lori Swanson wanted to open this up, I knew this would come up right away,” said Doug Cummings, director of East River Legal Services in Sioux Falls.

When contacted about Sanford’s business career, Swanson declined to comment.

I am not running for SF School Board

The main reason I took out the nominating petitions was to encourage others to run. This has happened. I have often contested that I wield a much bigger sword on my blog then I ever would on any council, commission or board.

Not to mention, I like to have a lot of fun in my personal life, and sometimes that ‘fun’ doesn’t really matchup with political office. Well maybe it does 🙂

Anyhoo, I want to thank everyone who signed my petition.

Maybe someday Detroit Lewis will serve publicly, but not today.

Sign the Petition! A RECALL on Shape Places zoning ordinance.

SAVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD PETITION

Thanks again to those who gave their time Thursday night to gather as a neighborhood and discuss the next steps in our collective efforts to keep our neighborhood safe.

As usual, there was a lot of dialogue and we are so fortunate to have dozens of knowledgeable, talented and engaged residents committed to maintaining a high quality of life for our families.

The consensus was to proceed with a petition for a referendum of Shapes Places – the city’s new zoning ordinance passed last month.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

This means we are trying to recall the Shapes Places zoning ordinance that was adopted on March 19, 2013.

WHAT DOES THIS REQUIRE?

First and foremost, signatures! We need to gather 5,300 signatures by April 19.  In order to obtain the 5,300 signatures in this short period of time WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
