Lifelight announces ‘City Fest’ location

I was glad to see Cory commenting on the upcoming festival in Sioux Falls, and I would like to add to his comments on the two day concert event;

From thousands of campers and an average 130,000 concertgoers at the rural Worthing concert site to a mere 18,000 tickets at the Sioux Falls stadium? Wow—better start praying for tickets!

Cory points out the one thing I have been puzzled about. How do take an event that has garnered this many people in the past and reduce them to Canaries stadium? Could it be that maybe the numbers will be more controlled as to who can attend, and done on purpose? Not sure, you would have to ask Alan Greene.

I do know that the rural location has caused some headaches with the organizers. Rain has always been an issue causing a muddy mess sometimes at the festival. I have also heard rumors that the campground has become a ‘playground’ for ‘some’ teenagers that are not really there to spread the word of Christ, so to speak. Not sure if that was a contributing factor or not, but it seems Lifelight is looking to reign in some of those logistical problems. Good for them.

While I may not attend or endorse these kind of gatherings personally, I do applaud them for bringing the festival back to the city (for economic reasons). And when it comes to more free concert events in SF, such as JazzFest, I say AMEN to that.

2017 City Salaries; Economic Development

While there is only 6 employees in the Economic Development office, salaries add up to over $500K. Even the lowest paid employee of the department, the administrative assistant, makes over $49K a year. The department seems management heavy.

What surprises me about the department is how slim it is on office staff. I think the department has become very ‘tight’ or should I say ‘tight-lipped’ since Huether has become mayor. I guess the fewer people in the department, the less likely there are leaks.

Sioux Falls City Council contact information is ‘PUBLIC’ information

In other words it can be shared with anyone. Whether that is on a city website or a public or private flyer. NO ONE has to attain permission to share public information as long as it is accurate.

There seems to be some confusion lately with what can be shared with the public, and I can assure you, official city email and phone numbers of elected city council members can be shared. If anyone tells you otherwise, they are WRONG.

Another ‘Sloppy’ announcement from the SD Dems

“There’s a tear in my beer because I’m crying for yah dear, please help run this race . . .”

When I first heard about this on Monday, I thought the announcement of Suzie’s departure and a possible run by Billie so sloppy, I just sat on the news to see if someone heard something different, I guess not;

Jones Pranger didn’t say whose campaign she would be working on, but signaled it would be for state Sen. Billie Sutton, D-Burke. (Sutton has not announced his 2018 plans.) “South Dakota Democrats have many great potential candidates like Senator Billie Sutton who, should they decide to run, would level the playing field for South Dakota’s working class,” Jones Pranger said in an email.

This could have been coordinated better . . . oh, nevermind, forgot who I was talking about. And we’ll all sit around in November of 2018 and wonder how Mike Huether became Governor.

What the HELL is a ‘Segregated Fund’?

Sometimes when city directors are sweating bullets trying to dig themselves out of a hole (FF: 1:10) they slip up and reveal ‘certain’ things the mayor’s administration is up to. Brent O’Neil, Economic Development Manager, called an account that is ‘holding’ money away from the city’s general fund or reserve fund a ‘Segregated Fund’ during his presentation Q & A portion at the informational meeting.

Funny, in the 11 years I have been following city politics I have never heard of such a practice of hiding money from the general fund and quite frankly from the public in a separate secret account.

Maybe Finance Director, Tracy Turbak would like to explain this practice? Is it a normal practice in municipal accounting to hide money from the General Fund or Reserve Fund by putting it in a separate secret account? If it was a private business, maybe I could see such a practice, but with public money?

Sounds a little fishy to me.
