Once again, the Argus Liar only prints what they want….

I don’t understand why they didn’t just print Katrina’s whole letter.

I assume it’s because the AL editorial staff has some hidden agenda to suppress dissent and criticism.

Here is Kat’s piece in it’s entirety.

Governor Rounds set goals in the 2010 Initiative to double visitor spending and develop SD’s quality of life as one of the best in the nation.   Without the foundation of the South Dakota Arts Council, how will these goals be met?  Cultural tourism revenues and the creation and development of vibrant, creative, economically progressive communities is a residual effect of government support of the arts.

I was one of those Gen-Xers that wanted to get away from the rural life of South Dakota as soon as I graduated from SDSU.  That was, until I discovered that I could find a career in the arts here.

I’ve worked for a non-profit arts organization for the last eight years that receives a grant from the South Dakota Arts Council.  Each time my organization produces an event our patrons and vendors positively impact the state through sales tax revenues.

A report from Americans for the Arts shows that as of January 2008, South Dakota is home to 1,287 arts-related businesses that employ 6,368 people and it is estimated that these businesses and arts workers create a local economic impact of $48 million.

The foundation that the SD Arts Council provides my organization keeps one more young person in this state to pay taxes, buy a home and start a family.

My life is a microcosm of the trickle-down effect of how funding the SD Arts Council benefits our communities.

I’m tired of the argument that funding the arts is frivolous and meaningless.  Ideas like this are millions of miles away from the reality of how government funding of the arts truly does benefit us all, not only intrinsically, but in regard to our economy.

Our local newspaper still doesn’t get it, seriously

Benjamin Franklin’s masterpiece wasn’t funny, but it made a point, the ultimate goal of an editorial cartoon.

Don’t get me wrong. There is many fine people who work at the Argus Leader. Columnist Matt Okerlund writes brilliant populist editorials. Ellis always trys to get both sides of the story and the stark differences between both parties involved. But when I open the paper every Sunday morning, there is always something that makes my head shake. This morning did not disappoint, as usual.

I will confess, I am a news junky. I would read the AL if it was written by monkeys (ironically an ad campaign Career Builder had in there newspaper) I have to get local news somewhere, and it is not coming from our local Radio or TV stations.

I have concerns though that the editorial staff is extremely out of touch, just like our government is, with the pulse of the community. Their ED Board opinions are often 90% incorrect, take today’s column for instance, they were able to get in a jab at the Union (no surprise, the GANNET corporation has often had disdain for Unions) while condeming raises to city management. In fact, this is a good example of what the AL does. Walk a fine line between there duty to the people as the Fourth Estate and there duty to there advertisers as gigantic, pathetic asskissers. Think about it. On one side they were condeming government for overspending, but just could not resist to drag the ‘Evil’ Unions into the mix. If they think a 3% cost of living increase is a Union overstepping there bounds, they are nuts. If anything, the Union is not doing there job. The 9% management raises (they are not represented by Unions) needed to be the focus of the editorial.

But I digress.

Okay, back to where I started. Not getting it. Today the AL printed an editorial cartoon by a local cartoonist. Not only was it horribly written (as usual) but the drawing was ‘weird’. Am I a great editorial cartoonist? Not at all, (anybody who only spends 10-15 minutes on a toon isn’t exactly a person who worries about detail) but I am a Hell of a critic. Besides the fact that the cartoon wasn’t funny, or made a point, it had a weird Jesus on a donkey feel about it (It was Daschle on a Donkey leaving Washington wishing he still had his LIMO service- which kind of made me chuckle- considering the rage neo-cons would feel comparing Daschle to Jesus, which I am positive wasn’t the cartoonist’s intention) Where do I begin. First off, it had Daschle going back to SD. Guess what, he does not live here, and hasn’t for a long time, secondly, it was done by a cartoonist who has been pointed out to the Argus several times that he is a PLAGIARIST! Yet they continue to print his toons?!?!

They just don’t get it.

Kook-Bag, Kool-Aid drinker letter of the day

Jesus was a FREE Market Capitalist – Who Knew?

Gotta love it when neo-conservative theocrats write letters to the editor and misinterpret our founding fathers;

In plain English, our unalienable rights are endowed by our Creator (God), and it is the responsibility of our government to protect these rights.

No, our rights are endowed by us. God gave us our own brains and thoughts to govern ourselves. Individulism and independence is the backbone of a FREE society. Faith is an important facet of that, but it is only one rung in the ladder.

Christianity does not corrupt men; men corrupt Christianity.

Yeah, detective, that’s what we like to call Hypocrisy. It’s pretty prevelant, but does not affect my American Freedom one single damn bit.

Freedom is the result of democracy.

No Shit?! Thanks for the insight.

Christ is freedom’s father. Government’s confiscation of personal and financial freedom is the byproduct of socialism.

Jesus was actually a socialist (you know, helping your fellow man, etc. etc.). He warned us of the money changers, didn’t encourage us to be them. He got up in their shit, and wrecked their house and such.

I think you better throw away your current bible and pick up the King James version, it explains all of this in great detail, really.
