I see Pat Powers is back to selling postcards. Did he ever quit?

I had someone send me this exchange on Pat Powers FB page today. Not sure if Nelson was snarking on Pat or Stan, but it was funny;

Pat Powers
Less than 100 days until election day. If you need signs, postcards, palm cards, door hangers, etc and so on, drop me a note, and I’m happy to help you complete your “to do list.”

Stacey Nelson
How about all that ultra Top Secret public information you are reputed to have access to? Is that extra or does it come with the pennies you charge for postcards?

Pat Powers
Stace – Shhh… People might discover it’s been on-line for about 15 years.

I also found this sob story on Pat’s FB page to be over the top;

Pat, you created the wedge between Stan and yourself, that, and what you did may not have been illegal (according to SD state law) but it was extremely unethical. Apparently you have learned NOTHING from the experience. Unfortunate but not surprising.

Could we transform DTSF into Austin’s 6th street?

6th Street, DT Austin, TX

I have thought about this idea for awhile.

What would be the harm in experimenting with closing down Phillips Avenue between 10th & 11th and 11th & 12th (leave 11th street open for traffic) on Friday and Saturday nights after say 6 PM to 2 AM for the month of July. And allow open container (as long as it is plastic cups or aluminum cans or bottles). You could also setup picnic tables and bring in street vendors of all kinds (not just food or drink but artist booths also).

I think DTSF needs to turn it up a notch, and what’s the harm in experimenting with the idea?

Downtown businesses would have to be heavily involved and there would have to be strict cleanup guidelines by the DT businesses.

This makes me sad

Saw this story tonight on Stormland TV and it made me a little teary eyed. Growing up in Parkston, which is a mere 20+ miles from Mitchell, I have seen a lot of movies at the Starlite in my day. I hope the community comes together and raises money for a loan or grant to save the outdoor movie theatre.

Darrin Smith seemed to be on the lam a bit about naming rights & the Events Center

Councilor Staggers grilled Darrin about the groundbreaking deadline and how it is nearing (FF 44:00). He asked if a contract has been signed yet on naming rights. Darrin told him he hopes to have one before the groundbreaking ceremony. Darrin also said to just ‘trust him’ because basically everything is being handled just fine by him.

I am wondering why the council has not been let in on these negotiations? At least before the public knows. We are a month away from groundbreaking and SOME councilors don’t have a clue who is being considered. This is uncalled for, especially for an administration that calls itself ‘open’ and ‘transparent’ and has launched a Facebook page (8 people as of today ‘LIKE’ the events center).

Huether basically backs up Darrin by saying negotiations are taking a long time because they want the best value for the citizens. I would agree about the value, but I think these negotiations could go a lot better if there was more transparency. The mayor seemed uncertain about whether or not a naming contract would be singed before August 30 but they were shooting for it.

Oh, boy.
