Judge Larry Long rules against the SON neighborhood in favor of the Southside Walmart

I guess the ruling came down late Friday. They of course are going to appeal (and have several grounds to do so). The original basis of their case was that the Planning Department (Mike Cooper) re-zoned the property internally after the vote, which ‘should be’ a no-no (realistically it needed to go back through the Planning Commission and City Council).

Hopefully we will hear more about the ruling in the coming days.

Rosanne Cash at the Pavilion

She finished the show with this song tonight. I never cried so much to country songs. Right before the picture I told her how much my mom and I loved her father’s music. What a wonderful night, thank you to the Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center you are still the premier entertainment place in town. In the above picture with Rosanne and me and cameraman Bruce is David Mann – Tour Manager & Soundman.

UBER in Sioux Falls (Daily Spin)

Supposedly, the city has come to an agreement with Uber.  One must realize they’re most concerned about lost sales tax revenue.  Doesn’t have anything to do with public transportation.  They got their up front license fees from 20+ cab companies whom I feel sorry for.  There will always be a few cab companies but Uber wipes out most of their business.  Cab companies/drivers will eventually realize the fees and anguish are not worth the endeavor.  The deal with Uber is a flat $1500 per Uber driver(?) without the need for a taxi license.  One college student was interviewed by KSFY.  He stated he could use the extra $20 after his busy class schedule.  Uh, $20 with $1500 up front takes a long time to justify. Uber was after operations and would agree to anything up front.  The $1500 will disappear because it’s not a license nor is it a sales tax.  It’s can’t be justified.  Especially, when Uber will have the lawsuit dismissed because city government is not recognized constitutionally.  Uber will not pay anything to the city because then it makes their independent contractors employees with full benefits. This matter makes fools of the council and especially our ‘Business Man’ Mayor.  As usual, they were hoodwinked. Another big surprise will be a 25% or so loss in sales tax scale.  The city will lack revenue to service bonds and fulfill the 2016 budget.  City weakness is it’s income comes from sales tax.  In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a new 8 to 10 online services such as Amazon & Ebay.  Prices are less than retail with free shipping and NO SALES TAX. I, myself, go out of my way for a better price and not to pay sales tax.  I can wait a few days and items come straight to my door.  I don’t have to pilot around spoiled teen posses on a good weather day at an inside mall.  I’ve also discovered it’s more convenient to order packaged foods on line.  Our city has created massive debt for upper class entertainment.  The best way to slow them down is cut off their water.  Join me.

UPDATE: Apparently Sioux Falls City Councilor Karsky won a CMA award?

UPDATE: As I suspected, the tickets for the CMA’s were bought privately by the Erickson’s and no taxpayer expense. Just to clarify.

Foolish me, I thought outgoing councilor Karsky was going on his last junket to the National League of Cities conference in Nashville to learn more about municipal government that he could share over the last 5 months of his term. It was all a ploy to receive his CMA. (snark)

Notice the conference started on Wednesday, but the councilors needed to move this week’s meeting to Monday so they could go to the conference on Tuesday. But Tuesday night they took in the CMA’s.

Our tax dollars hard at work! Now if we can just get them to unlock the doors at the Huether Family tennis center.
