Mayor Subprime Mike Huether

I guess Mike Huether disagrees with the Ethics Board

Strange that Huether would disagree with the ethics board’s decision on about property values adjacent to the Events Center (AL):

Huether acknowledged property along Burnside is on a new course for development as hotels, bars, restaurants and retail expected to grow up in the shadow of the events center will need building sites.

“Your property is going to be a lot more valuable,” Huether said.

Huh?! I thought Councilor Entenman was let off the hook for conflicts of interest because his property values would not increase? But the mayor says that is not true. Can the complaint be refiled?

Odds and Ends

I’ll make this quick.

• South DaCola is planning some reconstruction over the winter. New look and other fun stuff. Stay tuned.

• Our next Rant-A-Bit podcast will be recorded on December 6th. Scott and I have no planned guests, but if you would like to join us, drop us a line, we may be able to work something out. Pre-warning. Vodka and cussing (may) be involved.

• I have a meeting scheduled with Mayor Huether at his office on December 13th to chew the fat. I plan to give minutes of the meeting on South DaCola.

• Not sure if you saw this tidbit at Monday’s SF city council’s informational meeting, but they have been discussing moving the city council meetings to Tuesdays. I like the idea, and I think the change WILL happen.

Worth reposting

Ellis posted this and I called him and told him shortly after the poster first went up someone pasted a picture of Kermit’s face over the top of it and was up for several days. I don’t think the airport staff is too quick to remove it, if not responsible for it. I think they should make it a magnetic board and let people ‘dress up the mayor’

Holsen brings up his crying fit the other day, so it prompted me to pass on this email from a South DaCola foot soldier about the event;

I was at the Diversity Conference today over at the Ramkota, and the good mayor gave a 8 – 10 minute speech during lunch.  He spoke about him being poor growing up in Yankton and how when he went through the lunch line he had to show an orange ticket showing how he was getting free or reduced price meals.  Apparently this was his way of identifying himself as someone who knows what it is like to be different and as such he understands diversity. The best part?  He stopped his speech not once… but twice in order to cry. Once included a solid 15 seconds of silence as he choked back the tears.  Seriously.  It was incredibly uncomfortable and as I scanned the room I noticed quite a few smirks from people who have seen it before. Then as soon as his speech was done… he bolted for the door faster than Rosie O’Donnell heading for a free cheesecake buffet.

If I had eyes like that I would be crying to.

If the EC fails it won’t be because of negative feelings about the mayor

I hope the mayor takes heed of this poll if the EC fails, he still has a high approval rating;

Mayor Huether Receives 62 Percent Approval Among Sioux Falls Voters, While 48 Percent See Sioux Falls Going in Right Direction

62 percent of Sioux Falls voters approve of the job of Mayor Mike Huether, according to the Nielson Brothers Polling (NBP) October 26-27 survey. In the poll of likely Sioux Falls municipal voters, 21 percent say they “strongly approve,” and 41 percent “somewhat approve” of the mayor’s performance. On the other hand, 21 percent say they “somewhat disapprove” and 16 percent “strongly disapprove.” The 62 percent is a 7 percent drop in approval from a May NBP survey of registered Sioux Falls voters and appears to reflect a change in intensity of opinion. Respondents who “somewhat approve” drop by 10 percent, compared with a 3 percent rise in “strongly approve” responses, and a 6 percent rise for “strongly disapprove.”
