Update: This is how Sux spends your tax dollars

Update: I guess there was a HS cross country event at Paisley park today, so why can’t they run on unmulched grass? The Romans used to run races barefoot. So now I guess we fund HS sports thru parks tax dollars.

FIRST, THE POSITIVE: The Sioux Falls city council and Minnehaha County Commission restored 2026 funding for the Siouxland Librairies at their joint meeting today. Guess how much the mayor was cutting? A whopping $250K!!!! Yeah, a lot of coin for us mouth breathers but NOTHING to the city when you consider they have $80 Million in reserves (they are only required by ordinance to have about $50 Million cash on hand), but Poops has been stowing away money for his wet dream convention center). I was glad to see funding restored since all Poops cut was temp help wages.

I find it ironic that the mayor insists on nickel and diming citizen services while blowing MILLIONS on projects no one asked for (Sanford Wellness purchase and Jacobsen Plaza for example).

NOW FOR THE NEGATIVE: As I was commuting to work I decided to take the bike trail today and as I was riding thru Paisley Park I noticed the lawn had been freshly mowed. There were windrows (these are the piles of un-mulched grass that accumulate in ROWS) in the lawn. It was visible but NOT thick and would easily just disintegrate into the un-mowed grass with the next rain. So what did the Parks Department decide to do about these windrows? So there is this guy who drives down the bike trail with a tractor and a small blower he tows behind and he blows debris off of the trail. It’s a nice amenity and I appreciate it, just like the plowing of the trail in the winter. So this guy wasn’t blowing off the trail he was driving back and forth, North to South in the lawn blowing the windrows towards the East fence. My guess this would have taken at least 3-4 hours. So when the mayor talks about cutting essential services, maybe we need to cut the Parks budget, because apparently they have too much money to spend if they have a parks employee blowing grass around our parks (well, at least he was actually working unlike the parks worker who waters trees while reading a novel).

Also at the joint meeting tonight if you FF to the end where there is public input, it is worth the watch. A woman came up, and very politely and professionally addressed them about property taxes, and she read them the riot act. It was amazing. She needs to come back to the city council meeting and do the same speech since the city’s TIFilicious desires are raising our taxes. She also recommended that TIFs and OPT-OUTS should only be approved by voters. DAMN TOOTIN! She was cut off by Dean Karsky (him and Beninga need to retire) because she called out Commissioner Joe Kipley personally* (you know, Mr. Conflict of Interest double dipping from taxpayers) and a comment he had made, and it was a doozy.

To be honest with you, public input really doesn’t matter anymore you might as well be talking to a floating turd in your toilet, you would get more of a response. The County, the Council and the School Board all have their votes in line and mind made up before they walk into that meeting, no amount of pleading or shaming will get them to change their votes. There have been on occasion a councilor will change on the fly, but not because of testimony. I felt sorry for the folks over the last few weeks who have shown up to speak for the first time about important issues like deportation and the homelessness only to get patronized by the mayor. Deaf ears folks.

*The council and commission have a rule(?) at their meetings that no one at the podium can call out elected officials or public employees by name or individually. Let’s just say it is a contrived rule probably in Roberts, but as far as the 1st Amendment is concerned, you can call out anyone you want to at the podium and all they can do is cry.

This letter doesn’t even make sense

This letter to the editor is so stupid, I don’t even think it would qualify as a bad comment on my blog;

Letter: Find new audience for ‘leftist liberal writings’

Written by G. Malcolm Jameson, M.D., Yankton

I’m not quite sure what the Argus Leader’s Jonathan Ellis might have been puffing on, but his continuous leftist liberal writings suggest some obscure mind-bending malady.

He seems to find impartial discussion, supposed insider disclosures, political fairy tales and terse comments much easier to do.

Perhaps Iowa might be a more fertile field for his politics.

Okay, Doctor ‘G’, we get it, you are a Right Wing Wacko that hates liberals, but could you give us a clue as to what these ‘liberal’ writings were about? I know that Ellis has claimed to be a bit Libertarian on some issues, and I haven’t always agreed with him, but ‘Liberal’? Hardly. I wonder if Ellis crapped his pants laughing when he read this. Hopefully the letter was written on a piece of toilet paper.

If you really want to rant about a political reporter at the AL, I would have to point towards Montgomery, while he is very talented and in depth in his reporting, he tends to lean a bit right.

So much for not needing the government handouts… (Guest Poster)

We will be looking forward to more of these greedy, self-serving back to Gods who would not cross the street the help their fellow man in trouble now looking for the handouts…  They forced the City of Colorado Springs to shut off street lights, shutdown police patrols, fire the fire department because those are wasteful expenditures.  Now they are begging Obama and the federal government to save their butts…

Wildfire Tests Police in Colorado Tax Movement’s Home (Bloomberg News)

So much for the lessons we were taught in our 1940-1980 growing and learning years about how we were all in this together. When we were all in this together with Ike, JFK, LBJ and even the evil RMN the USA prospered. People still made money while we were learning how to not be racist, bigoted, and still making mistakes but we were doing it together. Shared sacrifice, shared mission to help all succeed.

Now we have TeaBaggers, Blue Dogs, Corporatists, prosperity gospel evangelists all leading the march for the individual wrapped in phony Austrian, libertarian economics. An economic system designed to destroy the very fabric of America and the civilized world. We are not in a socialist, communistic fight for the soul of the American people, we are in a fight of morals between the haves, have nots and the wishing we were part of the haves (aka Poor White Folk). The poor white folk are fighting a war against the have nots. The poor white folk are using every means possible to economically hold down the long term poor or non-whites or women. Many of the leading organizations in this effort are based in Colorado Springs, CO.

Why should we care?  I do feel sorry for the people of Colorado Springs up to a point. No one should suffer these fools gladly.  But the home of phony Christian movements such as Focus on the Family, Ted Haggard’s super New Life Church and more is pushing the destruction of our social safety net. These super Christians, these Prosperity Gospel Christians are super hypocrites.

Look at the begging coming out of Colorado Springs right now, do a Google query.  At this time, there are over 2.5 million hits of all sorts.  What happen to their Libertarian self-reliance program of small government? What happened to their plan to pay no taxes, the  need to socialistically pay for fire protection as a group?  Waldo Canyon is a newer development built in a formerly restricted growth area, with little extra support services. Why should there be any extra firefighting or police protection? What could possibly ever go wrong?  Fire what fire? You need water? For what?

Here in South Dakota we have our own version of this movement.  Have you heard of Dakota Dunes, SD the private community next to Sioux City, IA?  A special interstate 29 exit takes you to the home of corporate and personal tax evaders living in a flood plain.  The Army Corp never wanted anything but barge grain terminals built there.  As long if there is enough money involved in the right war chests, why should we worry about floods.  The dams have been holding back water since the 1950’s without breaking or bursting, so why should we worry.  Build against mother nature, why should she care?  Well in 2011 the libertarian, back to God, TeaBagger, Blue Dogs of Dakota Dunes got a taste of mother nature and the mighty Mo.  Do you remember what they did?  They asked for handouts.  Just like Colorado Springs, handouts to pay for their mistakes.  Oh, cry me a river of tears.  Get flood insurance, don’t call me.  I have flood and water insurance even though I do not live in a flood zone.  It’s a responsibility thing.

Remember the other river sob story we were hit with last year?  The Fort Pierre / Pierre flooding made many headlines in 2011.  40 years ago I lived in Pierre for a while.  I saw all the beautiful river frontage and asked why no one built there.  The answer was simple, it was a flood zone and the Army Corp never wanted it built on.  Let everyone enjoy it as a park, a people’s park.  So what do the responsible Libertarians do?  They build McMansions with their own boat docks in the backyard.  These McMansions have the elites of Pierre government offices living there.  We saw stories with pictures of a recent former governor, who now wants to a US Senator, using prison labor to protect his property.  Isn’t this ripe, or does it just stink?  This man and many of his neighbors, contributed to reason these inmates are incarcerated, now asking these convicted people to save the McMansions.  I heard many references to thanking God, pray for us but don’t let nature take its rightful course. I personally didn’t care if the houses floated down river, they built them in a flood plan, the houses should not be there .

One last rant while I’m at it.  The Black Hills fires are raging.  I really like the Hills.  We have man loving them to destruction.  Now we have 4 dead North Carolina airmen who were trying to save the property of Back to God Libertarians who don’t want to pay taxes to cover the funerals of these airmen.  I am sorry these airmen are now going home in caskets just for the unselfish effort to save greedy sorry hill people from themselves.

I am so tired of hearing about the phony Prosperity Christian storytelling.  How is this helping us a nation?  If you are living in a dry mountainous area, have a backup plan.  If you live in a flood plan, have a backup plan.  If you are a Prosperity Gospel Christian, have a backup plan.  If you are a Libertarian Back to God, don’t call President Obama or the Red Cross if you need help.  Call your private insurance company to pay for your disaster recovery.  Call your Prosperity Gospel leader and ask for the handout you need.  I’m sure Focus on the Family will open its treasury for you, NOT.
