School Start Date, Sioux Falls, Public Input, Jan 31, 2017

Let’s do this again and again and again. Why won’t certain people in the operating cabal of the Sioux Falls School system understand the people don’t like being pushed around? Our town had a vote in 2015 to put sanity in the school calendar but certain people in control keep telling us to go away and leave them alone.

On January 31, 2017 Superintendent Dr. Brian Maher got an earful and then some. Observers in the Lincoln High meeting saw him shake his head a few times as he saw what a mess he has been left with. It appears he has not seen how upset this process has made the citizens of our little town.

As usual the Homan leftovers are trying to pull fast ones on him and the public. Maher’s closing statements are worth a listen. He may have seen how upset the SOS members and the public are.

Drinking Liberally – Tonight 5 PM

Please join me for this. I have been going several months now, and it is always good discussion. We usually only have a couple of beers and are out of there by 6:30, not to mention half price apps!

Sorry for the late notice but we meet tonight as alway at the “41 TapHouse” located just west of Scheels on 41st St. Happy hour lasts ’til 6:00. It makes the evening very affordable.

In Trivia News: No one won our Trivia Contest last week. This week’s prize increases to $30.00. It could be yours. Or, as we recommend, you could contribute your winnings to a cause of your choice.

Todd Epp posted an article regarding the South Dakota Democratic Party (SDDP) that sums up the SDDP’s problems succinctly. While I don’t agree with his prescription, it is always nice when someone agrees with you, even in part. Here is a link to Mr. Epp’s musings:

Nationally, things are desperate, scary, and more than a little insane. Not much more can be said. Here is our link to a summary of much of the national progressive news, political cartoons and opinion for the week

Bottom line, it is time to get ready for the battles ahead. We have some ideas. I am sure you do too. Come and share them with us. Then let’s get to work and organize. But first….

I need a Drink. Join us at Drinking Liberally tonight.

And, don’t let our name mislead you. We drink conservatively from 5:00 to 5:08, moderately ’til 5:15 and liberally to whenever. But, if you stay for karaoke, you may have stayed too long. And, as the Beer and Alcohol Companies encourage, we always drink responsibly.
Location: The “41 TapHouse”, just west of Scheels on 41st St. in Sioux Falls.
When: 5:00 PM (almost) every Friday, Until: Whenever.

Did Joop Bollen sing like a little birdy to the Feds?

I’m not the only one that thinks it is a little odd that Joop only got a $2k fine and a slap on the wrist. Most plea deals come with a ‘deal’. The question is, did Joop make a deal with Feds to sing like a little birdy to get his plea deal?

Why would anyone kill themselves with a 5 foot branch in the middle of a grove of trees over a piddly felony and fine? Bigger things were going on, and I have a feeling Mr. Bollen is helping to fry those fish.

Mayor & Development Office pick Legacy for DT Parking Ramp project

I don’t have all the details yet. But I’m sure there is going to be a lot of questions why a company that was invested in Hultgren Construction, a company that is being investigated for an accidental death, was chosen to work on a tax payer project. I hope we learned our lesson from Mortenson and the ramshackle job they did on the EC and the council REJECTS any funding for a parking ramp that is being built by a company being investigated by OSHA.

I can’t believe the administration would be so brazen to even suggest such a partnership. So idiotic.
